[CONNECT] Level Global Display bug?

Hi all,

I'm having an issue intermittently for the last few versions in Microstation CE (and Power Platform products like OpenRoads Designer) where Global Display of levels doesn't turn levels on/off and does some strange things (see attached video). It happens very randomly and doesn't fix itself up by restarting the session, etc. View Display and Global Freeze work perfectly so i'm not too sure whats happening.

Anyone seen this before? Any ideas how I can resolve it - its driving me crazy!

  • Hi Mark,

I have seen this before (see attached), back in April last year and filed a SR for it. Up to now, Upd11, there is no solution yet.

My guess it has something to do with levels in the design in combination with a level_dgnlib but I am not able to find the real problem.

  • Thanks Andre,

Does anyone know the status of this defect? Surely should be high priority to get a base function like level display fixed?

    Regards,

    Mark

  • You’re right Tim, excuses for my misplaced remark.

I think it’s my frustration, the frustration about all the defects in CONNECT and the long time it takes Bentley to solve them.

It would have been nice to hear a fix date from Bentley. A workaround for a defect sounds to me as a solution may still be far away.

    Regards,Andre

  • Development is definitely looking at this issue. They have a few examples that were provided. I don't know how involved this issue is to get fixed and I cannot say how quickly it can be fixed, but they are looking into it.

  • After much wasted time, I've found that even removing any MS_DGNLIBLIST_LEVELS variable it SEEMS to manifest if I have more than 3 dgnlibs with levels in them, defined using MS_DGNLIBLIST. I could be mistaken though...

Fair enough it's being looked at, but any specific info as to why it's happening so we can workaround this issue in our workspaces?

    Regards,

    Mark

  • hmm...Still not fixed in U12 - surely being able to control the display of levels in a CAD software package should be high priority?

  • FYI after months of experiencing this issue my worksaround is to add "%undef  MS_DGNLIBLIST_LEVELS" to my workspace and use the plain MS_DGNLIBLIST variable for Level dgnlibs.

  • We have noticed the same problem / frustration with connect releases of prostructures and BRCM. We have submitted service tickets to the prostructures support team. Hopefully these get elevated to the microstation support and development team Thanks for the suggested workaround I will give it a try. Hopefully Bentley get it fixed in future releases of microstation.

  • Unfortunately still an issue with Update 14. The %undef workaround doesn't work either...

  • Tracked it down to 100% being caused by having the same levels in different dgnlibs - tested by our local Bentley team to be happening in Microstation CE Update 14 all the way back to Update 11 (and probably older). I've also found that it also affects DWG files.

As a workaround, i have removed any duplicate levels in my dgnlibs and it is working fine (so far). Hopefully fixed soon as it destroys our original philosophy of keeping our local road authority workspace untouched and "overriding" certain levels with our company variations - dramatically increasing workspace maintenance requirements. Hopefully this will be resolved to work as it did in v8i soon.

    Mark
