Just tried adding a Bing Map to a site plan following this blog https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/b/microstation_blog/posts/like-v8i-you-ll-love-connect---make-using-bing-maps-a-snap-by-using-microstation-connect-edition
The aerial view drops in OK but the quality is rubbish. How do I get a better/sharper display of the map. @Shawn McGaffick

To add to Shawn's comments perhaps this article will help elaborate the limitations of Bing maps in terms of image resolution and scale.
Can "you" (Shawn and/or David) provide some guidance on getting the Bing Map options to work. They have NOT worked for me since Update 4, and my posts in regards to this issue seems to go unanswered for the most part. I am unable to use either a Background Map or attach an image thru Raster Manager. When I open a file that has a Bing Map already attached (from the Update 4 days), I see:
www.bing.com/.../Aerial (Password required)
and when I look in Raster Manager, and right-click on the raster, I see "Enter Credentials" in the pop-up, but nothing opens when I select it (not sure what I'd have to enter anyway).
Yes - I AM signed into CONNECTION Client.
I suspect it's something to do with our firewalls, so it would be nice to see a document that specifies the requirements for getting this to work.

Hello Bruce,
Bentley's OpenFlows (water) products have Bing Maps capabilities as well, and I believe dev.virtualearth.net needs to be opened up in your firewall.

Hi Bruce
Ill try to help as well.
Can you one let me know what GCS is being used, really just want to verify one is defined. I am sure you have one but that GCS is the main requirement to make Bing Maps work.
And can you then let me know the Update you are in U10, 9 etc.
And take a look at opening a design file, is it a 2D or 3D file? And once in the file, if you go to View Attributes do you have anything that states Background Map ?
Sorry for the possibly dumb questions. I want to start here rule all the easy stuff out.
So there might be an issue with firewall but just wondering if we simply have some issue with Bing Maps in Raster Manager versus Bing Maps via View Attributes.

I am in Update 11 (10.11.00.36). The file is a 2D file. In view attributes, I have "Street Map" turned on:
and see nothing. I have also tried to attach a map via Raster Manager, and I get:
Sounds like a proxy issue. We did change the location of the Proxy dialog. https://docs.bentley.com/LiveContent/web/MicroStation%20Help-v14/en/GUID-08C2357F-639F-4CA7-8900-3C67CADD4D43.html
HTH!
I'm confused somewhat. When I sign into Connection Client, no proxy settings are required (that I know of). I successfully connect. So you are implying that even if the Connection Client requires no proxy, that using Bing Maps *may* require proxy settings?
Another issue - yesterday I "checked-out" a CONNECT license for MicroStation to remove the requirement that I sign into the Bentley cloud (i.e. Connection Client) in order to enable MicroStation (company policy is not to access external clouds). So that means I'm "not signed into" Connection Client (Message Center recognizes that with "Connection client does not seem to be logged in"). So even IF the issue is with the proxy, it won't work anyway - right?
I don't have CE yet but it looks like we cant use the Google earth pro integration that was in V8iss3 and 4 under the GCS tools
is it just in another tool box or are we forced to use bing when we update to CE, if that's the case its a real shame as Google earth has more recent maps and seems like better quality..

Hi Lorys
Its just another toolbox so can use Google earth as before.
I also had some similar problems with Bing maps in connect, so i stoped using it for now.

good to know... thanks, I'll stick with google earth pro.. when I upgrade to CE. BTW which version of Goggle Earth pro works with CE.
