Hi,
Why is Connect Advisor being installed with Bentley View? How much advising can be done for a read-only viewer?
Also, why does installing Bentley View Connect affect the installation of Microstation V8i SS3? There is no reason why installing the new View should install the Connection Advisor into Mcrostation V8i, especially without giving the user an option.
--Thanks,--Robert
CONNECT Advisor is a helper application, which when installed integrates itself with supported V8i Applications and CONNECT Edition products together.
there is a single CONNECT Advisor that serves both the generations (v8i and CONNECT Edition) of Bentley Applications.
Hi Nazeer,
Again, please tell me how the Connect Advisor with help me with the read only Bentley View? The only "helping" that I can see is that Bentley is helping themselves to my computer... At the minimum, there should be an option to disable its installation.
Connect Advisor should not be forced on you. If anything, it should be a non-required option.

Maybe I'm looking at this whole thing the wrong way. The ribbon was suppose to make tools more "discoverable" for the new person. The "Connect Advisor" is supposed give you training, help, and a unified place to find everything because you don't know where to look. It sounds like this is the "Bentley Beginner" line of products. I meant to be using the "Bentley Expert" line of products. Where can I find that?

My users don't need any of this. It's just a distraction from what they should be doing. 90% of the content is irrelevant in the first place and I want my users looking at specific help that we have provided to support our workflows not generic low quality and often not about Microstation content.
Well said. Couldn't agree more.
please disable CA via the settings

I just uninstall it.
Thinking about this, what Bentley have actually done is instead of solving the labyrinthine mess of all the different places they have content that we might want to access they have created an app to try and navigate it. Far better to rationalize and streamline then we wouldn't 'need' the app.

You hit the nail on the head! :-)
Recently I wrote down (for one cooperating company) a list of links and sources useful for MicroStation users. I spent a few hours to collect them, test and do some classification. It has been confusing to work with several different webs (BE Communities, LEARN, www.bentley.com...) with different look and feel, different searching and often in illogical structure.
What a difference when I need to find something on Bentley's compettitors' webs like Autodesk or ESRI: Simple structures with easy navigation leads quickly to information I need.

Jan
