Experienced AutoCAD user, newbie Microstation user here.
Opening up MS shows this kind of "Open" file directory box.
How can I make it look more normal, like any other Windows program, or AutoCAD, below?

Try to go inside Workspace \ Preferences \ Look and Feel \ Use Windows File Open Dialog:
If that don't help, you can always try and use the restore factory defaults.
