I do not usually switch off handles, so I had to test how MicroStation behaves when the handles are not visible and it would be valuable to create a list what features are now treated as handles. I found:

Traditional handles displayed at element vertices
Table handles
Tool widgets handles used to modify e.g. cut plane etc.
3D element handles used to access parametric modeling features for selected element

Maybe there are some more, displayed in specific situations. Anyway, to use handles to edit table element seems to be consistent with common concept when to display addition tools to modify the selected element.

But you shouldn't need to have handles enabled to allowed Tables to work correctly.

Bentley - Any chance you can fix this. Think I will file an ST.

That's correct because i don't use them. Thanks Jose, that solved the problem but Bentley where in Help does it say that these need to be turned on?

You don't get to see rows and headers because in your Element Selection you have Disabled Handles (like read only) object turned on.

File attached. This is my DGNLIB which I'm trying to make a templatecommunities.bentley.com/.../Floor_5F00_Area_5F00_Schedule.dgnlib of.

Note that is not from an excel file as I've gone back top basics to crate one from scratch.

Hmmm ... I have no idea what can be wrong :-(

Can you share your file?

A few more ideas:

Is the element table (element type displayed in tooltip is Table)?
Is the table the only selected element (there is one element in selection set, not more)?
Is "table context" tab Table Tools / Layout displayed in ribbon?

What is the normal Selection Tool. I am using this one to select the Table but still no rows and headers.

Probably because you do did not select the table (as element).

What will happen when you use normal Element Selection tool to add the table to selection set?

Jon. I have tried Help for all this but my Tables don't give me the options that help is showing. i.e no rows and headers.

I have also tried changing the symbology that that also don't work.

In the end I have has to resort to using Properties to select rows and columns to be able to change things, but this way doesn't allow me to select a single cell. Note that I can't select a cell from the table or use ctrl to select more than one. No idea what is gouing on here but my tables to act like the ones in Help!

You could try MicroStation help. It's been available online for several years now, in addition to being installed with MicroStation.

Select the table itself, so rows and headers are displayed.
Use right mouse button display Refresh context menu, it can be used at upper left corner (refresh option is the only displayed) or at any table cell (refresh displayed as the last menu option).

Actually not quite editable. It appears that there is information there but I just can't see it because the table is white and masks all the text. How do I change this to the background colour?

With the options shown I get an empty, not editable table. The table shouldn't be empty as the spreadsheet has information in it.

I used the table tool with MicroStation Update 11. It successfully created a DGN table. I can edit the table...

Make sure that you use an appropriate table seed, which is described in MicroStation help.

Do Bentley Systems claim that an associated table updates automatically? Try modifying the worksheet in Excel, then save the file in Excel, then refresh the table in MicroStation.

I think you're looking for the Association option in the Place Table dialog when you choose to import from Excel.

I tried that but all I got was a table that linked to the spreadsheet, which by the way, didn't update when updating the spreadsheet. The table also wasn't editable in CE. I could pick it but do nothing else with it.

How do I just place (copy) the spreadsheet into the file without the link.
