Place Note - Change Annotation

Per a clients request we need to convert one file back to SS2 from SS4.  Is there a way to globally change the Notes created with Place Note so they are not annotative?

What do you mean by 'not annotative'?

When you create a Note using MicroStation V8i SS4, what problem does that create with MicroStation V8i SS2?

  • Do you mean you want to remove annotation scale from the note? If so then the key in annotationscale remove will do that. I'm not sure how that would make a difference though?

  • I'm not sure how that would make a difference either, but it is what the client requested.  Using the key-in is causing issues with the text and leader.  Using the select by attributes I can get either the text or the leader to look correct, not both.  My approach, and probably wrong, select by attribute, use change dimension, select by attribute change text.  Attached is the result I get.  The last image is how I want it to look.

  • My experience with Note elements is that they are very resistant to change. They rarely respond to any of the "change" tools the way I think they would. Either text changes while the terminator stays the same, or the inline leader does (or doesn't!) change...I've never gotten Notes to change in any way useful to me; I usually have to re-place them.

What happens if you select both pieces at the same time, and use the key-in then, instead of trying to do them separately?

  • I had to do this a long time ago you may even find the keyin post in this forum...

Well essentially you have to redo all the place notes.. what I did was create a new base file set the dim style in that file with no annotation scale .. then ref attach the file that needs fixing and use a keyin that  ran from a F key basically was select text in a note, copy text to clipboard, run place note, paste text from clipboard...  once you have redone all the notes... you exchange to the bad file delete all not leader texts ( by level and the selection set tool) .. now ref attach  the good note file and copy all the notes or clip boundary and merge ref..then make sure annotation scale is off before you save settings .. and remember not use it again for that client...then move on to next file / drg... with the f key its pretty quick .. Afterall how many  place notes can you have in each drg?
