[CONNECT] Release of Update 12?

Hi all,

I'm eagerly awaiting some fixes apparently addressed in Microstation CE Update 12 - does anyone know when it's due to be released?

Regards,

Mark

  • Mark, that's good to hear. My users are generally creating 2d architectural drawings so value the speed with which they can do that, the keyboard shortcuts, the ability to create high quality presentations from those drawings. If they want 3d they use Rhino and if they need a BIM workflow they use Revit. The problem with Connect is that whilst the individual tools are largely the same, the way they are accessed via the GUI is totally different and the default short cuts are totally different, and it all feels slower. I know I can enable position mapping and get the tasks window back (for now) but it feels clunky. Perception is really important with users and they talk to each other. The only way I'm going to get people using Connect is to remove V8i and I know that is going to cause a lot of resentment when I do it.  The only tangible benefit for my users at the moment with Connect is that they can open 2018 DWG files. They don't use any of the other 'improvements'.

  • Bob.

Did you not attend the CONNECT world tour events, hosted in 15 countries, in front of 1000+ users.  Was amazing to see Bentley marketing at its best. These events...   were designed to show case a major release, a major upgrade to their FLAGSHIP application(s).

  • No, I missed those. Used to catch those guys when they came to my home town every year. They don't stop here anymore.

So they do still call Microstation their Flagship product? That's just sad.

  • I want to be objective,
MS Connect is a step of continuous progress that Bentley must do.
It is a software well-conceived both as an interface and as a speed of that, both as a capacity and an tools.
    What are the weaknesses:
    1. This transformation (in MS-CE I mean) should be at least 3 years earlier, so Bentley, you're late.
(Same mistake in SPEED did Blackberry in introducing modern OS (based on QNX), lagging behind iOS and Android. QNX was the top of the top, but it came late and the apps were already oriented towards Android and iOS.)
    2. As mentioned by many in this forum, a commercial product can not have so many bugs, as reported here.
    3. Bentley is changing the brand name in "Open" (OpenBuildings, etc.). But is this re-branding policy really "open"? Are you open to external plug-ins such as rendering, physical engine, third-party generative programming, parametric tools like SolidEdge / Solidworks, etc?
To conclude: I think MS CE is very well conceived product, I used trial version, I read in the forums that provided several evolutions in parametric direction, path trace render engine and more, as tu use to say: “there is a lot of meat on the grill”, but you have to succeed in a very short time, make the product STABLE !!! . With modern 360 ° MARKETING, and create LEARNIG even easier to consult.
You need to attract new Bentley customers, and especially, do not dismiss old ones.
Microstaton must be a product that is very high capacity and high stability, a kind of critical mission product, not work-in progress.

  • Just an addition to release dates:

    Microstation CE11 (English)  5 Nov 2018, Microstation CE11 (German) 14 Nov 2018

    Powerdraft CE11 (English) 22 Nov 2018, Powerdraft CE11 (German) 14 Feb 2019 (!!!)

It's not as if we Germans weren't paying the same amount of license fees as the English speaking users.
