We are trying to phase our RSC fonts that originally were TTF fonts. We decided to start small - Arial
But in MicroStation, I see two places Arial is listed - Once as @Arial Unicode MS and again as Arial Unicode MS but both are listed using Red text, as it looks here.
And if I select it, like in the Place Text tool settings or Text Editor dialog box, the editor displays some other font, but the text on my cursor looks as I expect. However, if I place it and then check its properties, it lists the font as Arial, and in the dropdown list that can be displayed in the properties dialog box, it lists Arial, but it's at the bottom of the list, after the SHX fonts.
Is there some other location we need to specify that we are not using an Arial RSC font?
If it's red and listed it usually means that it has been used in the file but is not available in your instance. Are these fonts in a text style? You could always change the font in the style and then remap the elements that use it.
Hi Chuck,

Both are TrueType (or OpenType) fonts. When font is listed with @, it means it's font designed to be used with Asian vertical texts. Maybe it's one font only, but supporting both versions, I am not sure.

As Bear wrote, red color means the font is used in design file (text, text styles, maybe also dimensions...) but it's not found in current session / installation.

What fonts are used is defined using proper configuration variables.
When a font is not found (listed in red), it cannot be used, and MicroStation provides font substitution.
My question is: What do you expect in situation when font is not found?

From the results I was seeing, it was allowing me to use Arial even though it was listed in red, but it was only reporting its name as Arial, not Arial Unicode MS. We also just rediscovered the MstnFontConfig.xml file and with some edits, have manged to hide the red fonts and reveal the actual Arial TTF.
Now to figure out what to do about the SHX files that get created when we occasionally have to work with or create a DWG file. Time for a new thread but in another newsgroup.

The following Wiki article has been around a while but should help to explain how the fonts work in relation to duplicates and the different types, ie. RSC, TTF, SHX. Adjusting the MstnFontConfig.xml sounds like what you have performed to ensure the correct font type is listing and not displaying in red.

Hi, I had this same issue when I got a new computer. It seems the latest versions of Windows 10 do not include the font types. I understand this is an old thread, but for anyone who may have this issue after getting a new computer, the trick is to backup the fonts folder (C:\Windows\Fonts) and copy it to your new computer. Solved it for me.
Thx
