Mstn CE U12 Dialog Speed Regression?

Hi,

The File dialog speed problems seems to be back. 20s+ for it to show up. Even on the second and third try.

  • It's been a month since our workplace upgraded from v8i to CONNECT edition 10 version 10.10.00.23

    We are having a same issue with how slow the file dialogue is. Also, its very slow when you want to open any design file by pressing ctrl+o or simply opening or closing desing files.

    Because of this issue, I was thinking to recommend our organisation to upgrade to CE U12, but its very concerning to see that this issue still persists in the latest update.

    I have spent countless hours to find out why it was causing these issues and I can confirm that its to do with your .upf file.

    My .upf file started with approx. 21KB and in a week its sitting on 243KB. Now when I try to just open design files by ctrl+o it is slow to open the dialog box. And to confirm it, I deleted my .upf file after that and restarted microstation again. It created a new .upf file and everything seemed to be very fast.

    i'd recommend you to backup your current .upf fie and try to delete it and see if the file dialogue opens up faster. and also test it to see if ctrl+o is faster.

    Does anyone know why the .upf file keeps increasing on size? and what is it saving?

    Thanks.

  • Shyam and Dominic,

    FWIW. I would suggest "closing MicroStation and renaming your .upf" vs deleting the upf as part of troubleshooting these types of issues. Upf files do grow in size when opening and closing individual application dialog boxes storing their last opened positions and likewise read when opening.  It would be good to provide a before and after (good/bad patient upf) so support/development can investigate what resource(s) have changed or were negatively impacted (if not on a network).

    It is also very important (for each user) to know and state if their upf file is located on the network. This should not be advised due to significant performance and potential reliability issues; and as the name was intended; to imply and by design; specific to one (local) user's preferences.

    Open Windows Explorer and select the Current User Preference File
    $ % explorer /e, /select, $(MS_USERPREF)

  • Another shocking display of lag/lack of speed is the Level Manager;after it appears try dragging the edges of that dialog, pretty disgusting how slow it is compared to V8i.
