Please can somebody help, I have two files which individually work normally but when I try to reference one into the other are not visible.
They show as being attached normally but in the level manager it shows that no levels are used, they are all turned on globally and view display and are not locked.
I have tried eveything I can think of multiple times
I would agree with Ian on this.
Perhaps you are attaching the reference using the wrong model. I design file can contain more than one model. So upon attaching the reference you can choose which one to attach.

Hi Ian and Tim, thank you for your suggestions unfortunatly that doesn't seem to be the problem, I am using the same settings as I always do, see the attached screenshots, which normally work just fine
.
However, could the following be the reason:
I have had this problem twice recently when trying to reference microstation files that have come from shipyards, Fincantierei and Chantiers de L'Atlantique, who both use very old versions, before V8i, of microstation.
I can work with these files just fine add and delete elements also reference in my V8i or connect files

MicroStation V8 and CONNECT can handle V7 DGN files. A V7 DGN file presents as a file that contains a single DGN model.
What's in those V7 files? Are they 2D 3D? Are you using a display style in MicroStation V8 that doesn't display V7 DGN 3D solid elements?

It is not a display problem, the levels show as not being used, either in wireframe or rendering. I don't think that they are V7 files, I didn't get the request to change to v8 when opening them.
They are 3D files that I can use, save as a new name etc without a problem but they will not show up when referenced into my V8i files.
As an experiment, I tried to save it as a .dwg file and nothing was converted.

Sorry, I misunderstood your previous statement...

All V8 files, and CONNECT files for that matter, have the same format.

Can you share one of those files here?
OK, my apologies to everyone, I have discovered my problem, it is as Ian suggested because I had omitted to open the reference file settings dialog and use the Ref Geo3D instead of the default model.
One of the many problems of being self taught, thank you all for your help.
