Hi Richard,

"L" means locked variable. I recommend to create msdebug.txt file and to analyze, in what workapace cfg file the variables is locked.

I have noticed if you save the Configuration File it goes to a .ufc file

I have some older saved .ufc files and wondered If you messed up on a change 

could you restore from the previous saved .UFC file. When this laptop was passed

on to me the setting above "Default Design File Seed    System   L wants to look at

seed2d.dgn. I thought on the previous laptop I was able to change path and all ?

I was made administrator on this machine as I am the  only user. I followed the great suggestion Jan gave,  and have the debug file but now have no idea what to do with it ? I tried looking through it, but did not know what I was looking for. I have searched on how to unlock a locked setting, no-one seems to write anything. Plenty on Locking. I do have the option to setup a new default but get the blanks to fill in and do not know what to put? Anyone else ever crossed this bridge ? 

Do not want to crash the program, I did try a different name and  $(_USTN_SYSTEMROOT)seed\RJBP_seed2d.dgn, but after it asks do I want to change it goes right back to the seed2d.dgn ??? Hope information is good enough to get help. If anyone needs I could try to attach the debug file ?

A User Configuration File (UCF) has a .ucf extension (not .ufc).  MicroStation won't recognise a different extension.

A UCF, as with all MicroStation configuration files, is a plain text file.  You can open it with a text editor such as Windows Notepad.  Don't attempt to use a formatting text editor, such as Microsoft Word, because it will save the file in the wrong format.

Thank you Jon, now in the configuration file>Seed File Location     USER

c:\programdata\bentley\microstation v8i (selectseries)\workspace\projects\rjbp\seed\  I have this line, yet when I select New Microstation keeps opening the default design file seed and only looks looks seed2d.dgn. Even if I Select new and put in the path above it resets to the same think. it is Locked. Does it have to be locked ?

I also checked the MS_SEEDFILES    USER   and it also has the above path and added \rjbp_seed2d.dgn trying to get it to load my seed file. Any suggestions ?
