I was reading through the CONNECT online help and I noticed that Tags are now considered deprecated. I previously used Tags in my Titleblocks however I am now left wondering what users are now utilising instead for titleblock text?
Also, when I was last using MicroStation, I created a VBA project in Excel with which I was able to import Tag information from DGN files, edit the tag values and export updated values back to the DGN files. Is the replacement for tags (Item Types?) something that can be as easily manipulated via Excel VBA?
Hi Barry. We have changed our policy on Tags and have not deprecated them (anymore). Let me describe a bit about what that means to us in this instance. Since Tags were deprecated it means that we will not fix defects (bugs), so if it breaks that's just the way it is. We have decided (around U5) that until Item Type workflows for PWDI and a non-connected mode are ready, we will continue to support Tags. We are fixing an issue with Replace Tags in U13. Also, we expect to have a Limited Access version of Title Block Integration (TBI) in U13 as well. This ties into the latest PWDI versions, just released.
To find specific instances of something please use the Report tool. It can query the Item Type (or other data) rather nicely and then export to Excel.
