Morning Folks,
I'm creating custom linestyles for v8i SS2 and these custom linestyles have text within the cells that will be incorporated into the linestyle. Should the text that is a component of the cell that is repeated in the linestyle be create using No Text Style or should I create a Text Style specifically for custom linestyles?
Thought I would ask the question before I got too far.
Thanks for all your time,
I have found that text in linestyles works better if it doesn't have a text style. It actually works best if it isn't even text anymore!
I set my text to appear the way I need - size, font, etc. I place my text characters. Then I drop them to basic elements (Drop Element -> Text). Now I can select them all to create my custom linestyle point symbol.
This solves a few different issues I have seen over the years. What does my linestyle look like if someone doesn't have the font resource? What if the text style has a different definition that the one I used to create the linestyle? If my text is text, it can give me some strange results indeed. Dropping the text to its representative elements means it LOOKS the same everywhere it goes. It also means it will look the same, no matter how the text styles are defined in the file.

I haven't created linestyles under the new regime, but I always dropped the text to components. Of course you may want different results for your application. Just run some tests, I wonder if Annotation Lock will have an affect. I would be unable to use text of a named style because I modify mine all the time, my text styles are like seeds, I could never have a unique text style for each situation. Your results may vary.

I agree with both MaryB and Bob here in that once you have selected what text you wanted and the font it is to be displayed as that you should drop the text back to its individual geometry before you store it in your Point Component.
