Cells don't appear correctly in preview. Cell Editor.

Hello everybody,

I have some problems while creating a cell: The cell doesn't work correctly in the cell creator vindow preview .

What I want to do? To create a cell with elements in different levels because their parts are applied by level.

Process:

1.I place the origin in an isometric view where I can see all levels because are on.

2. I use a fence in a top view (same display) to select.

3. I create the cell, but in the preview only appear the elements in the active level.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you,

  • Which version of the software are you using?

Do you have Level Lock on? There is a user preference "Level lock applies for fence operations". If your level lock is on (even accidentally) and you have that preference set, your fence will only pick up elements on the active level.

By the way, A cell is actually just a DGN model, with the "origin point" located at 0,0,0. You can open the cell library as a DGN file, create a model for your cell and just start drawing everything just the way your want it. Just make sure that when you're done, it is all moved so that the point you want for your origin is at XY=0,0,0. SO much easier than the old Cell Dialog -> Create.

  • Version: "AECOsim Building Designer CONNECT Edition x64 Update 3 (English)", 10.03.00.40.

I have all my models in a dgn already.

How can I change this preference for the fences?

I think that levels are not locked: I just make right click on all of them and check the properties, the check-box "Lock" isn't activated.

    Thank you for your help,

  • I can't select anything that it isn't in the active level. could it be related?...

I'm new on Microstation, sorry about my questions.

  • Find your Settings -> Locks. On my computer there's a little lock icon in the very lower-right of my MicroStation window. One of the options there is "Level Lock".

This is not a locked level. This is a "lock" that will only allow you to manipulate elements on the active level if it is on. While that's handy in certain circumstances, it is not something I use all the time. Most of the time, I have it off (unchecked).

I suspect that's gotten turned on accidentally, and it's causing all these problems.

  • Thank you so much.

I have created the cells and compound cells correctly and my catalog items but...

When I try to used them in other workspace, by copying and paste in the correspondent folder of worksets all of the .XML; bxc; .pal; *.cel; *.jpg that I was using (DatagroupSystem, DatagroupCatalog and Part form XML -  Cell for bxc and cel - Materials for palettes and their correspondent bump and pattern) ; the materials that were applyed in the properties of some levels and not by family&part don't work well.

I have loaded my palettes (Works correctly), I changed the url of the family&parts, charged my library cells and check the catalog editor for "Prove_NM" and appear all the necessary, but when I check the material that was applied in these levels, the material have changed from "XXXXX.jpg" to "(None). Materials applied by family&part work correctly but I need these other in level.

In addition, I have to make a zip to share the cells, compound cells and items with other partners, and I don't know if the url is correctly because this "PROVE_NM" could change to "Building…._NM" or other… and I think they Will have to change something but I don't really know and in my opinión it isn't correctly. Will it change automatically?

Have I to share the *.dgn where I have created the cell and everything?

    Thank you,

  • This seems to have evolved into purely an AECOsim question as Microstation doesn't have any of this. You would probably get a quicker response posting in the AECOsim forum.
