Hi there,
For some reason I am having issues where MicroStation can sometimes take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 mins from clicking to open a drawing and the drawing being opened. I know that there are lots of factors that can effect this loading time ranging including work space configuration, drawing file size and complexity, drawing and work space file location, computer specs, internet speeds etc.Since there are so many moving parts, trouble shooting each one is time consuming and complex.
Is there a way to activate a debug or start-up log that tracks what MicroStation is doing while it is opening?
A log like this could be very helpful in diagnosing the start-up times.I know there is an exception log, but this only provides information if there is an error, and doesn't really provide a timestamped process of startup.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Our company uses Microstation V8i (SELECTseries 4)
Thanks,
Chris
Not sure if these tools are going to assist with what you are trying to achieve but you might like to also consider raising a new Service Request with technical support who can assist further by analyzing any logs etc.

Hello,
we are running MS V8i Select series 3 and we are having the same problems. I could start Microstation within its program folder from the shell command line with the --debug switch. How can I use this switch when I want to start MS from within the GUI in ProjectWise (10.00.01.67) structures?
It seems that MS has an interface for Microsoft VBA scripts and another one for Bentley scripts, is that right?
Best regards
Thomas
Hi Thomas,
It can be done by setting User associations. You can refer https://communities.bentley.com/products/projectwise/content_management/w/wiki/13050/how-to-setup-microstation-logging-with-projectwise-exlporer-integration-tn

Hi, Swapnil, thank you very much, this helped indeed! I could start MS within Project Wise with the debug switch now. I am still checking the paths in msdebug.txt, it's more content than I expected. But I also encountered the pecularity that the drawing or model I clicked to open is not opened for the normal working process. Instead I only see the MS V8i start screen and the WIN10 rotating circle indicating still being busy with the process. MS is not starting until I quit the shell, then the MS closing dialog opens (the one asking to check in / free / cancel) and MS is closed. When I remove the -debug switch, I can open the files open again for normal working process. Is it intended that with thisswitch you cannot open your files for the normal working process?Best regardsThomas
Yes , it is intended. If same switch is used for MicroStation only, It shows configuration details and exits.
