Can anyone please explain to me the difference between MicroStation hln and dgn files? I've exported 3D information as hln and wonder whether I should now export as dgn. I need to reference this into a 2D dgn file. Many thanks.
Duncan is right they are the same file format. The changing of the extension dates back to the 8.3 file naming day, really not a thing in practice any more by software. The data inside the file is different though. HLN is a visible edge file where only the visible edges of a 3d model are exported.
