V8I Batch process DGN reference into dwg file of same name

Hello,

I am trying to batch process referencing a dgn into a dwg with the same file name. example I want to open Building1.dwg and reference in Building1.dgn via a batch process. I have several hundred I need to do.

Originally I used REFERENCE ATTACH .,default,<(>,<)>,* to reference the dgn into itself, then I batch exported all the files to .dwg, but autocad doesn't recognize self references files. I need to reference in the dgn the dwg file. Is this possible?

when all the files were originally in dgn the self ref works right? then just batch export to 8dgn with merge ref setting on then batch export those again later to dwg,,, ie 2 step export

Hi, 
 I have tried to manually reference a dgn into a dwg file. When I re-opened the dwg file, the reference was changed to a dwg instead of a dgn. This happened with both Connect and V8i. So I don't think you can reference a dgn into a dwg. I know you can go the other way around and reference a dwg into a dgn.
