I am doing some work on an asset inventory, and we have the initial location data provided to us as an SHP file.
When I reference in the information, the elements are zero-length points. I understand that is how they come across, but is there any way to make them display as a cell or a symbol?I know that I could get the coordinates and ImportXYZ to create cells in those locations, but I really would like to maintain access to the DB attributes I can see when I "Information" the points.
Speaking of which, is there any way in vanilla MicroStation or in InRoads to label these SHP points with one or more of the attributes as text? Can I use Fields for that?

Not in native MicroStation.
However, since you have Power InRoads SS2, you have access to Bentley Map. Activating Bentley Map from within Power InRoads you can import the point SHP files and define a cell to place at each point location. You can also use Property Based Annotation (PBA) to label the points with multiple attributes.

I forget - does activating Bentley Map that way use a separate license from InRoads?

No, it does not require an extra license.
Hi,
Bentley Map will handle this for sure.
You may also want to try our FDO Reader which will import most geospatial formats including shape files. It´s super easy to place cells and/or text for any point data.
The trail version will work for 30 days.
