I posted this over on the Visualization forum, but realize that it's a more generic Microstation question and likely to get an answer here;
When we export DGN>DWG files, Microstation presents a progress bar and information stating "Merging Reference....", and when complete; "Merge of 1 Reference(s) Complete" What is the relevance of both the words Reference and Merge? My files have no References attached - all I'm doing is exporting from one format to another. Why not simply "Exporting File: Filename.dgn > DWG"? and "Export to DWG Complete"? Just curious, Max

I just tried in CE U12 with a very simple file and didn't get the merging references message (Settings are to merge refs). Could the file have a self reference?
Thanks for your reply, Duncan.
I've made a simple version of one of my files and the issue persists. There are no references shown in the References dialog, and just one Model (Default Model) in the file.
When I export to DWG, Message Center reports "Merging References C:TEST\test.dgn:Default into C:\TEST\test.dgn:2019_FIELDS_16d Jan"
"2019_FIELDS_16d Jan" is an old filename for this file - but why is there any reference to it?
This happens to all my exported DGN>DWG exports - so something about them keeps remembering their original filenames.
Attached is my test file.
2705.test.dgn
I get the same with your file. Compress doesn't seem to help.
Yes, I tried Compress too - usually shakes off unwanted detritus... but not old filenames it seems.
One for Bentley I think.
