I know that this has been briefly discussed in another post but @KarishmaAnthony please can you carry out the same comparison tests on a win7, i7 pc (3-4 years old), with 24GB RAM and a standard HDD, using a 1mb file. The origianl tsts are al your blog at https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/b/microstation_blog/posts/performance-enhancement---file-opening-time-for-microstation-connect-edition-update-13-vs-v8i-ss4
I would suggest that this is a more realistic test. Look forward to your revised tests.
you were faster, I thought about similar post :-)

I agree completely. What Karishma Anthony posted is not bad "first try" but does not reflect reality of MicroStation users and contains some shortcomings. It would be nice to move the blogs from marketing-like optimistic formulations to exact engineering style.

Karishma Anthony, there are some advices how to make future performance blogs more realistic and better. They are valid both for Performance Enhancement - File Opening Time for MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 13 Vs V8i SS4 blog and Performance Enhancement- DWG File Opening Time blog:
Labyrinth Technology | dev.notes() | cad.point
Also what means file open? We need a cold start file open benchmark and not when Microstation is already open and just switching between files.
Regarding GUI performance it is easy to compare using key-in scripts and it shows that GUI is now 10x slower than it was in v8 era and two times slower as v8i.
Oto said: We need a cold start file open benchmark
in general, I agree. But from my perspective it's less important, because whereas I started MicroStation several times a day, I switch between files many times.
Oto said:Regarding GUI performance
It's topic for a separate discussion and it's already on my list, because Performance Enhancements- Properties Dialog Loading Time is the worst from "performance blogs", wrongly written not reflecting plenty of discussions how Properties dialog affects performance.
Of course Properties dialog is not the only issue in GUI, I do not understand why I should wait about 0,5 second when ribbon tab is changed for the first time (evidently it's not cached at bacground automatically), to switch workflow is even bigger tragedy. Everything in GUI has a tiny lag. When you work with MicroStation only, it's not so visible, but when you work with better and more friendly written software, it has become annoying. E.g. blender offers really fast GUI, the response to click on any settings, tree node etc. is ... just immediate. Even as developer I have to think "How they implemented it?" ... well, they are professional developers, buddy ;-)
So Karishma Anthony over to you for some new performance figures that are more realistic. Can you let us know when these are to be posted. I assume that you will do a new blog covering these.
Before it was - Pick the tool. Adjust the settings. Follow the prompts.
How it is now - Wait till Microstation loads Pick the tool. Make a coffee Adjust the settings. wait a little more Follow the prompts.
But it is not problem of Ribbon interface as for Office programs it works quite well or it seems so.
