[CONNECT] Can you modify a profile that is used to define a parametric solid? How?

How can I modify a profile that has been used to define a parametric solid? By modify, I mean more than just manipulating handles.

Inventor and Solidworks use sketches, and at any time you can enter sketch mode to modify the sketch used to create a solid. I'm hoping there is an equivalent method in Connect.

I can view the profile within the solid, but can't make changes to it.

  • Thank you for your response Dinesh.

Everything you say is correct and concurs with what I have seen in the help file. However, I'm looking for some answers that go a little deeper for more complicated changes. Yes, it is true that you can use the Profile Glyph to view the profile within a parametric solid and then hold right-click on an existing dimension constraint to either edit or remove the dimension. But what if you want to add dimensional or geometric constraints to the 2D profile after it is used to create a solid?

Let's say I forgot or did not realize I needed a constraint within the 2D profile when I created it at the 2D stage. Then I used that profile to create a parametric solid. Later I notice the problem and need to add a new constraint to that profile within the solid. How can it be done?

  • Hi JM, when right clicking on a parametric solid glyph you can select "show input element" to make the solid's profile permanently visible and then you can add more constraints or modify the existing ones as needed. You can also use a display set to isolate the profile and make the editing easier, in case you are in a busy dgn model. After you have finished, you can select "hide input profile" from the same glyph for hiding the profile again.

    HTH,

    Hello JM,

In this scenario you can place Profile level constraints directly on Parametric Solid without actually having any visible input elements. These constraints literally gets fused on imbedded Profile. Check attached video showing this.

  • Thank you Dinesh. Unfortunately, I am unable to view the video. Chrome says "This plugin is not supported". I attempted to enable flash but receive the same message.

  • Hello JM,

Sorry for that, can you check if attached GIF you are able to play ?

    Thanks,

    Dinesh
