Dear Forum,On my windows 10 laptop, with MS v8i SS3 and 32gbs of memory, we all know that i run out of memory when viewing large objects as when MS reaches roughly 3GBS it crashes. I have invoked Lock Pages to Memory, but id like to understand how the Windows 10 paging file can help, what size it should be set to, and does this and the Resource Cache setting in MS Preferences, work together?if my Resource Cache is set to more than 3GBS, is this a help or hinderance? Shoudl it be 3GBs as thats all its able to utilise? Does having it larger than 3GBs simply allow MS rto crash more easily?Does Windows paging affect Resource Cache at all? Is there an optimum set up which allows the most efficient way of working?Any yes im fully aware that Connect does a far bettter job of Memory Management, but the tools i am using arent written for Connect..... yet...!
32bit applications can only access 4GB of memory. 2GB is required by OS and the remaining 2GB is available for all the other applications. If you are on SELECT, install MicroStation Connect and check the performance.
Please check MicroStation Memory Management and Enabling Lock Pages In Memory
MS_Memory_FREELIMIT is a Windows OS user variable. Set it to MS_Memory_FREELIMIT = 100,700100,700 -> 100 means that x32 bit program will start lock memory 2GB – 100 = 1,900 GB RAM (it can be set to 200). 700 mean how much RAM memory is installed minus from Operating System programs.
Thank you.Look at this model within Connect, when solid viewing, the usage peaks around 4.5GBs, which tells you the v8i obviously needs more. My limited tech knowledge in this area doesnt allow me to understand:Why Solid views makes the memory usage sky rocket,How Paging really works with limited memory, is it still able to process but juat slower, or not process as mucn, so if the ,odel really needs 4.5gbs tp process is it goig to be able to do this with 2gbs available memory then paging? What is the paging limit and hiw do i quantify this?Where do i set 'MS_Memory_FREELIMIT'
Kindly log a Service Request and share your dataset. Performance on MicroStation Connect can be reviewed and be improved.
