[V8i] Rasters keep disappearing

This is about to drive me nuts.
I have created a sheet border seed file which includes several sheet models so that we can choose which layout looks best for each site (Landscape/portrait/multiple views). Each border has the client logo and the company logo attached as rasters, attached via Raster Manager from a known network location. Both are PNG files (if that makes any difference).

The file looks fine when I close it, but every time I re-open it, the rasters do not display, and they no longer are listed in the Raster Manager. But I can hover over the location and highlight something that tells me it is the attached raster.

I've searched this discussion board, but haven't found a "for sure" solution. After looking at a few possible fixes here, I have set my Raster to load "Standard" instead of "Automatic". But these are small (<100kb) files. I don't think that memory is the problem. I have deleted my cache, I have not deleted my cache...Yes, the raster files are still in the appropriate location on the network - they haven't moved.

I see enough posts about this that it's not an unknown phenomena, but I have yet to find a definitive answer. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thank you.

  • I don't  know if this will help but it works at my work place.

I put a copy of the raster logo in the same folder where the title block is located.

The reference title block is master copy on network but  I copy it to the project ref folder, modify to suit, strip out all non required rasters and models ie alternative sheet sizes etc, a one file fits all with different levels doesn't seem to work for me so I remove sub models to the bare bones and leave only the title block,  tags model self refed and refed log raster.

Then I ref manger to attach the title block and merge only the sub model tag set  ( or use a cell with the tags for the title blocks no linework just tags)

now this only has the logos ref attached that  I actually need via the raster manager.. all the tag text that is common like project name I edit in the ref  so I only need to do it  once but drg no, sheet no etc I do later with tags and vba and excel,  now I still work in model space not sheets.. as it works and local dot still want it that way..

I don't any have issues with the logos not loading this way, and when I give out the dgns  I just copy the logo and the title block and xrefs into the same folder as the drgs or more often  I just use packager to do it for me...

  • But the goal is not to have a copy of the logo in every project. we want one file, on the network, that can be referenced by all the projects for that client.

  • Depending on the complexity and size of the raster it might be just as easy to import it directly into the design file you're using as the sheet border.

Another option could be to vectorize the logo.

  • MaryB,

What do you mean when you say you delted the cache?

Are you referring to the the .ctiff file that is copied to your local hard drive? Microstiation converts raster images to a .ctiff format and keeps a local copy (definition?) on you local drive. Many times these temp file become corrupt and the raster is not displayed. You need to go into your temp folder and delete the .ctiff files and all should work.

I know you've been doing this a long time, but just wanted to clarify if this is what you've already attempted.
