dxf levels 10.13.01.01

10.13.01.01. I frequently acquire data from other softwares. Frequently these are DXF. When I merge those in all the data goes to Default level instead of the level they were assigned as a DXF. Generally I am merging them into the Design model.

Am I missing some setting, or is this just bug #83?

  • what happens if , you xref into active dgn and manually select all and copy by snap end point on element .. then detach?

Still no joy? can you creat levels or are you blocked from non standard dgn lib levels?

if the later you may have to use csv remapping and use the convert tool...

  • Yes, I can achieve what I need by other methods. I'm getting frustrated with the constant work arounds and bugs for a very expensive products.

Part of the problem is I've promoted Microstation since the beginning, I would tell anyone who would listen how good the product was, how helpful the community was, etc. The product had gradually (suddenly?) become bad.

  • Is it possible for you to supply one of these DXF files as an example for testing purposes? Which "other software" are you obtaining these DXF files? Would you be able to outline your workflow along with the settings used during the merge process? What Lorys suggested may be another workflow to perform this operation but we may be able to show some alternatives or identify why your current workflow is not working as expected.

  • Other software is Global Mapper. Workflow is; open county GIS data, various layers generally from shape files, export portion as vector to dxf file. Open DGN, attach, check scale 1:1, save, save settings, close, re-open scale changes.

I do not need alternates for accomplishing task. I am able to get this done, it's just one of many deficiencies I deal with daily.

     Thanks for the help!

  • When I merge those in all the data goes to Default level instead of the level they were assigned as a DXF

Am I missing something? In the original description you mentioned the issue was that when you mergerd the referenced DXF it all went to the Default level instead of the allocated level in the file.

Open DGN, attach, check scale 1:1, save, save settings, close, re-open scale changes.

In your updated comment you mention the issue is that the scale is changing.

Which of these issues is what we should be investigating?

    1. When I performed the merge of the referenced DXF the elements went to their assigned levels.

    2. When I closed and reopened my DGN with the DXF reference it was still defined as 1:1 scale.

Would you be able to provide the DGN file also for testing that you're performing these operations within.
