I have previously been using MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 4), version 08.11.09.829.
I typically use font "3 General Text". When I use dimensions, the stacked fractions box is checked to be enabled, and the "type" is "From Font".
Everything works perfectly. The fractions are stacked when I place dimensions. They stay that way when I edit the dimension text, and when I place text (using the same font) the dimensions are stacked and look exactly like the text shown in dimensions. It has been that way for the past 15+ years for me.
BUT .... now I am trying to get acclimated with MicroStation CONNECT Edition Update 13, version 10.13.01.01.
This is not my first rodeo, so I have pulled across some of my old RSC files which I have been using for years, including my font files. Some of them are a bit finicky, so I make sure the configurations are set to mimic my older version set up, down to the order the RSC files are listed (last file overwrites any common font types in previous files).
Now, when I place a dimension in the CONNECT Edition, everything looks exactly the same as the old version. Same font, fractions stacked as before. But if I edit the dimension text, any new fractions I input are not stacked. Also, if I place text, no fractions are stacked. I am inputting everything exactly the same as before. As best I can tell, all the configurations and settings match my old version (I have both open at the same time and go back and forth to compare). I can open a DGN file in the old version and everything works as always. If I open the same file in the new CONNECT version,
If I enter a stacked fraction in text in the old version, then open that file in the new version, it looks great. But if I edit that fraction in the new version, it doesn't stack.
I have found the "right click / stacked fraction" tool, but sheesh, that is awful cumbersome and the resulting stacked fraction does not look the same as those shown automatically when placing a dimension.
Am I missing something here, or is this what MicroStation has become?
Hello gentlemen,
Has anyone figured out how to fix this issue?
Hi Landon,
What is your exact question/situation? Also, what version of Microstation are you using?

Hi,
First of all, in the appropriate text style, you have to turn on "Fractions" in the General tab of the Text Styles dialog box. Then there are two ways of placing stacked fractions:1) In the Text Editor, right click and select "Insert stacked fraction..."2) In the Text Editor, type in [space]1/2[space] . ( [space] means hitting the space bar, or inserting a space character)
In method #2 above, Microstation will convert the space-fraction-space into a stacked fraction. Therefore, if you want the output to be "a 1/2 of" you have to type " a [space] [space] 1 / 2 [space] [space] o f " The double spaces consist of one space to actually get the space, and the other space to convert to a stacked fraction.
Thanks Robert, but I want the dimension to generate the fractions. This is not a text issue. I happened to find the fix in the dimension styles dialog under units, primary units, Accuracy! I just selected 1/8 :)
Thank you for the input in which I will surely use in the future.
Hi Mark,
I'm sorry, I did not read carefully enough. The above instructions were for placing normal text, not dimensions.
Officially:In the Dimension Styles dialog box:-In the Units tab, set "Accuracy" to a fraction-In the Text tab, under "stack fractions", make sure that "Endable:" is NOT set to off.Now you should be able to place your dimension with stacked fractions.
Microstation CE BUG bandaid (excuse me, "defect" workaround for the defective Microstation...)-In the Dimension Styles, under the Text Tab, you HAVE TO turn on the override checkbox directly below the "Stacked Fractions" label. Now you have to set the "Enable" to "On".
Thank you for this, I was ready to start pulling my hair out. So it seems SELECT series defaulted to having Stacked Fractions On but in CONNECT, you have to check the box beside that option for it to use that, otherwise it defaults to off with an extra space on either side.
So how do you give more space inside the extension lines for a dimension? Can you shorten the lines of the terminators? I want the text & terminators inside the lines. Any ideas without editing the terminator cell? Thanks

Please don't hijack a thread! Post a new question about more space inside extension lines.

It's all relevant, Dimensions.

Sure, and this Forum is about MicroStation, so it's all relevant. Should we have one giant thread dedicated to MicroStation?

The original post is about stacked fractions. Your question is about dimension lines. Help those of us who try to help you: post one question per thread and follow the Forum guidelines.
Folks do have variable opinion on just how to use a forum. The OP was about Stacked Fractions when using Dimensioning, so the "hijack" was almost related. Ideally we would have one thread on dimensioning settings.
