[CONNECT] Select elements by Item Type property?

Hi all,

Seeing that Item Types is the new way to add attributes to elements, is there any tool (or anything planned) to filter or search for elements based on an Item Type and/or it's property?

Maybe time for a revamped Select by Attributes tool?

Regards,

Mark

MicroStation Reports are designed to harvest Item Types, but work as well on elements that are not tagged.

    Worksheets and Aggregates

Our TagWorks products can harvest data about elements tagged with Item Types.  They present the results in a worksheet that offers filtering, sorting and element location (zoom to element)...

    MasterPlanner worksheet

You may notice that the worksheet includes aggregate data (e.g. total area), which MicroStation Reports don't have.

    Named Groups

TagWorks apps provide a way to add tagged elements to a DGN Named Group...

    AreaAnnotator Named Group

    Item Types in Named Groups

MicroStation has many ways to work with elements in a Named Group.

  • Hi Mark,

Sure, it is ... from (I guess) very first CE version ;-)

It's possible to search for elements directly in Explorer.

The tool is sometimes a bit weird (and too complex), also not all scenarios are supported (e.g. to search for nested elements recursively), but basic search if very simple:

It's possible to create complex search criteria (especially when not "Add Criteria", but Advanced Search dialog is used), but ItemTypes are displayed in basic list (custom "Test ItemType" displayed in the picture), so it's enough to choose the proper one and to specify the condition.

When the elements are searched, the results are displayed in Explorer in Search node and the elements are added to Selection Set.

You can use the search as a definition for MicroStation Report (and Tables) mentioned by Jon, or using Details you can search / sort / filter / export to Excel /... records accordingly your needs.

Maybe time for a revamped Select by Attributes tool?

Searching directly from Explorer can replace Select by Attributes in many situations.
