ConnecU13 Latest update and raster manager iTiff problem?

Hi all

I got an unexpected bug? problem within connect version 13 (Latest update) regarding what I guess has to do with  RASTER  Attachment and of Itiff raster format vs. Microstation SS10 (PRE SS10 also).

I don´t know if somebody else has Itiff raster files (Itiff=Benntley raster format that (was) really best raster format to use within Microstation) but I use/used Itiff as standard raster format but then used PRE connect versions because  that format was the best and fastest raster file format I tested!

But that was in SS V8i edition .... versions. Now in Connect I was surprised that Bentleys own raster format doesn't´t work  in Connect as in SS versions.

I could be totally wrong in my comment but I hope that someone has some solution to tell me an workaround for connect usage with Itiff raster files:

Ok: here is how SS10 (SS series) do handle the Itiff raster reference with active vector or reference vector information, Normal function when attach raster reference is that raster reference is background information:

Here is the same information in Connect edition, and totally no chance to use any settings in Connect to get Itiff raster to be Background information!

The only way to see the Vector information is to set the raster level transparency ( this is No solution) to see the vector data above connect Itiff raster attachment.

The same scenario with different raster file format (JPG) in Connection does exactly as I wanted to, raster as background and vector on top as rastermanager settings are set:

So I don´t know if my comment are just a problem with my Itiff or is there some settings that I don´t know about to resolve this problem!

Best Regards

Tom

  • Update on this thread:
When I started my computer and opened test file that I had regarding the iTiff issue today..surprise.. surprise  every thing worked as it should with the iTiff raster files!!

It seems that in open session of windows 10 and the batch convert (raster manager) function and Connect U13 has some issues with this workflow. I didn't´t had the time to investigate further today but if someone else have time to do further investigation or had the same issue as me so be happy to response to this thread.

  • (related) I've had a few bugs show up with raster referencing. It will not print after a compress, in fact if you ever compress your file, be sure to close and re-open your CAD file. Connect in general is poor, buggy software. They're counting on us to inform them of all the various things wrong, so if you find a reproducible, easily documented issue, please file a Service Ticket. Just don't expect any positive results.

  • Hi Bob

I am trying to find a reproducible explanation for this before doing an SR but before I fully know if this is just a mistake how I use Connect's new version or if this is a bug in the Connect version I need your help if you happen to find the same problems like me. I can't just create an SR and Bentley can't reproduce the same bug I discovered or I have to find the time to reproduce the bug that no one else has problems with, better if many others have the same problem and the SR gets prioritized by Bentley.

  • Yes, that's right. No use to file a ticket unless you can completely document and reproduce the issue. Since your files seem to be acting fine after close and re-open that will be impossible. For a while I was keeping my own documentation of each little thing that happened in an attempt isolate issues, but I gave up due to the high volume and lack of response on the few tickets I did file.

I'm surprised I manage to get my work done without too much trouble. We can hope it will only get better.

Yes, just hope, I have changed job myself and fortunately I do not need to produce anymore but have the main task of reviewing work documents. It was a stressful situation when you were producing at short notice and in Microstation suddenly a bug appeared and you couldn't do what you wanted. But I who used Microstation for many years and I am used to that instead of Bentley fixing the bug, they found a workaround so you could solve your problem temporarily.

So I became very aware of what or how an SR should look like before the very reason the problem in the microstation bug could get a higher priority and as you described so well, you can only hope that your bug will be prioritized and resolved as soon as possible in the next update (at that time updates were between 1 to 3 plus years between updates).

So now with the Connect versions, at least the updates are more frequent and the hopes can be fulfilled faster.

So don't give up, suddenly one day in the future your particular problem may be solved Blush
