Global Line Style Scale in v8i

Good day everyone

I am trying to understand the Global Line Style Scale, and I am not sure if it is in reference to the size of the element, pixel width and height, working units or active scale?

If anyone could shed some light on this I would really appreciate it, and also if it is possible to set or view or set independent line style scales?

Thank you, and any assistance is appreciated.

wish you all a great day

  • While I can't say for certain WHAT Global linestyle scale is defined by, I do have some practical understanding of HOW it works.

Linestyle scale can be set a couple of different ways. If you want to set linestyle scale on a per-element basis, you can open the Linestyle dialog, choose your linestyle and set the scale there. If you prefer to set your linestyle scale ByLevel, you can open the Level Manager, select the level in Question, and right-click to find an option to open the Properties dialog. Linestyle scale is found on the second "tab" of that dialog.

Global Linestyle scale is applied to every cutsom linestyle in the drawing, after all of the other linestyle scaling has been accounted for.

I think that linestyle scale adjusts the "physical" size of the linestyle. Since linestyles are created with symbols and dashes and gaps that are defined by "real world"/working units, scaling them up or down changes the display size of those gaps and dashes and symbols. It also means that a linestyle created from a metric DGN file may not appear to be the correct size when used in an imperial DGN.

I know there is more to it than that, and I know there are others who know more than I about it. Make sure you read the Help; it's rarely as helpful as I would like, but it's a reasonably thorough resource.
