Hello all,
I just installed CONNECT on my laptop and I don't know how to extract tag information into a spreadsheet. can anyone help me? I could do on V8i but cannot find in CONNECT.
Thank you, Marina
Hi Marina,
at first, please read and follow best practices. At least to exactly specify version is usually mandatory. There have been 15 versions of MicroStation CE released so far, so an answer can be different depending on the version.

Tags are deprecated feature in CONNECT Edition, but complete functionality is still available and fully described in documentation. Did you try to search the documentation for e.g. "tag reports"?
You can access tags reports from Tags toolbox, which is available from standard Tool boxes dialog (Ctrl+T), in the same way as in V8i.

Morning Jan,
Thank you for your reply.
The version I have on my laptop is: MicroStation CONNECT Edtion Update 10 - Version 10.10.00.23.
Basically I created some cable tag with all the information i need to create a cable schedule/list, I need to export the tags information into a spreadsheet.
I used to do that on the Select V8i i had before.
To be able to do that again would I need to create a new 'report template'?
Regards,
Marina

Nothing has changed with tags in CONNECT. So, yes, you should create a report template using the same tools as before.
I don't want to distract you from your task too much, but MicroStation CONNECT has a more general reporting tool. Reports can be written to harvest information about most DGN objects. Here are some examples.

When CONNECT was released, Bentley Systems declared tags to be deprecated. Subsequently, they (Samir Haque) told us on this Forum that tags are not quite as deprecated as initially thought. However you interpret that change of heart, tags — like many other obsolescent technologies — remain in MicroStation and are unlikely to be removed. For example, ProjectWise uses tags to annotate title blocks, and many customers would not be amused to find that their title blocks were rendered invalid by 'deprecation'.

Whatever Samir told, regardless his position and role in Bentley, is not very important, as long as Tags are officially mentioned in "deprecated features list".

I do not quite understand what do you mean by this sentence: For the whole history of MicroStation, "deprecated feature" means "there is newer tool / replacement available" and it's recommended to do not start new projects based on deprecated features. It does not mean the feature will be removed soon or whatever else.

Again, the deprecation has never ever been (I do not recall any such information) explained as "it will not work". Deprecated features are only moved to a minimal development priority, but are still there, even not available in default GUI (ribbon). And they will there, even not developed further, for many next years.

I agree: but many people extract exactly that meaning.
