Forum,[MS v8i Products]Ive read many posts on Global Origin and Solids Working Area, and am none the wiser. Do 3D Graphics still need to be Near Global Origin of a file so that they fall within Solids Working Areas [SWA]? or is this not the case now, on v8i products anyhowSom posts say yes,some say no. Others talk about GOs and moving them. Surely there is knowledge on this?If i have a Project in the London area then the Origin of the survey grid, 0, is a long way away. KIf my Seed has been set with a true 0, does this matter or should the seed file be set up to have a Global Origin in the centre of the Project?Additionally, I have played with moving the GO as a test but when i use GO=, Monument Point, Click a defined point, my GO changes for that session, but as soon as i exit an MS Session and reload that file, the GO is back to where it was. So i cant even test moving the GO!!
For saving the GO, make sure that you Save Settings (from the file menu). I think that should take care of that.

Aha, Works... thank you, thought it may be something simple.Now i have done this, reset GO= local to my test Project, when i run SWA.ma, its still shows the SWA in the same as previously and not around my new 0? Any ideas? Have i misunderstood?
The SWA.ma utility is showing you a visual representation of a SWA centered within the design cube.
In V8i and CE each solid object has it's own SWA based on the object's centroid, rather than the design cube.
The SWA.ma is an outdated utility based on a method of defining the SWA that is no longer valid.
So each separate object has its SWA or each Design Model?What if a Design Model has lots of objects over several kms?

That is not an issue.
Here's a link to the MicroStation Documentation info on the Advanced Units Settings Dialog.
It explains that the SWA or Working Area (Solids) "defines an upper bound that limits the extents of any single solid such that it can be modeled to a fixed precision." With the default SWA setting of 1 kilometer, your modeling precision is fine as .01 millimeters (1E-008 Meters).
The Total Working Area is determined by the Resolution setting and defines the space within which you can place any types of elements, including solids.
This means that you can have any number of solids spread out over any distance within the Total Working Area as long as none of them exceed the size specified for Solids (SWA).
