Does anyone know if it is possible to apply variables to control the position of a parametric cell that is nested within another parametric cell? I couldn't get it to work unfortunately it appears to be fixed in it's position once placed. Additionally it seems it may not be possible to link a variable to the cell origin?
I guess one solution would be to create the variables to move all of the geometry within the nested cell itself, however it would be a lot simpler (less constraints required) if this could be achieved within the main cell. Has anyone found any methods to achieve this within the main cell?
Thanks,Ed
Hi Edward,
Was your parametric cell definition model created in model origin? Is that possible for you to upload a dgn file so we can understand your questions better? do you want to control distance between two parametric cell instances or just want to control the distance between parametric cell instance and active model origin?
Thanks,
Grace
Hi Edward, controlling the position of a nested cell is not currently possible, we will try to find a workaround if possible. Currently, for non-nested parametric cell, you can place a fixed line with its start or end point in the origin and use a 2D constraint to control the distance of your geometry from it.
Stay tuned as we are working on some news in this area for our future releases though

Ed, we are exactly working at introducing multiple placement points for parametric cells. Please let me know of any specific improvement you would like to see in the constraints and variables area.
Fantastic, great to hear that is in the works! With regards to constraints/variables, off the top of my head it would be great to see the following:

Post your suggestions to the Ideas Forum!

Yes an Idea is best way to go, it should be one for each individual request and please explain clearly what you have in mind, like Dynamic Arrays and 3D constraints improvements.
Thx!
Hi Marco,Been a long time I know, but I have finally got around to creating the "Ideas" as you and Jon suggestedThanks,Ed
