MS Connect: AccuDraw Shortcuts - Key-in for Smart Lock

Hi, I've been using MS since Win95 days and used to the well positioned key "B"  rather than the "Enter" for Smart Lock. In V8i I could easily replace B for Base Rotation by RB so B became available for Smart Lock. In MS Connect however it seems that I have to type in a Key-in under Accudraw Keyboard Shortcuts. Does anyone know what to write there? Thank you

  • I'm not sure what you are referring to here. By Smart Lock do you mean Lock Accudraw to one of it's compass points (X or Y axis)? If so you can just hit Enter. B is still Base Rotation for Accudraw.

  • That's true. But he wants to assign Base Rotation to RB and Smart Lock to B. I guess B is just closer to his left index finger than Enter.

  • Well, I just did change it the way the OP wanted.

File -> Settings -> Key Commands (or whatever it's called in the English version).

First changed the key in for "B" and then added a new "B" as a sub group to "R".

By the way: thanks for asking, I never thought about moving that command and was slightly annoyed by frequently having to move my hand to the Enter key.

  • No two-letter shortcuts? Well, THAT'S limiting >:-(

  • f.mandoki proved that to not be true. I saw this as I was in there poking around, but it did not dawn on me that you can as it is not the same layout as previous versions. Now you need to have a parent/child definition. See his screenshot.

  • I'm so with you on that one, it's just not fast enough to use Enter for Smart Lock. Good decision to change back to the rather old Win95 settings. There was quite a number of clever things about Win95, for example the wonderful 8x8 "layer chessboard" in the corner, offering a wonderfully limited and absolutely sufficient number of 63 (plus one default) layers only. Layers where defined by numbers, not titles, and you could select groups by drawing your mouse over that square in rows, columns or diagonally. Titles could only be applied as subtitles. AutoCAD, with it's silly idea of letting users create their own layers, ruined it all, and Bentley had to adapt. I worked on a large stadium and we had over 1,000 layers counting all required references, with other consultants just constantly getting the contractually agreed layer names wrong, for example by confusing hyphen and underscore...

  • Its not really a limitation and should not be a problem  if you have proper standards through common dgn libs and training users to use them, then you can be draconian and have cadmanager IT permissions set to disallow new level creations for users who are not cad admin or cad managers...and have some control but IMHO well written cad standards applied and distributed trump permissions and too strict rules can hamper good work... In big projects you need kickoff meeting to explain standards and conventions of levels and file names so providing all the drafters a pdf book of whats allowed  should remove  confusion... I love standards and dignlibs  I don't have to invent stuff often but when  I do there is an established set of rules  to follow or guide us   and your hyphen or underscore should be up the front and pointed out that this isn't acceptable.. well that rant over  and off topic sorry for that everyone
