link a cell from an excel file to a new property definition

Hello,

I have created a spread sheet in excel with the properties of some items.

In Descartes I created an item type library with item types and properties definition.

I am wondering if there is a way to link the cells from the spread sheets to the properties definition in a way that if I have a value in the spread sheet this is linked to the properties definition automatically in a way I just need to update the spread sheet.

For example if the property in the spread sheet excel file for purchased date is 20/04/2019 and I have to change it to a different value like 12/04/2020, if that is updated automatically in the descartes item properties.

Thanks

Regards

Roberto

  • The Item Types Import/Export tool, can be used to Export the Item Type Definitions to an Excel file. Once in Excel the Item Definitions value ( Date in your case ) can then be changed in Excel and reimported back into MicroStation using the Item Type Import/Export tool.

If you have attached your Item Type to elements these may have various values (dates) applied, again the Item Types Import/Export tool, can be used to export all ( or a selected few elements ) of these Instances to Excel. Having opened and modified the values in Excel they can be imported back into MicroStation using the Item Type Import Export tool to update the elements

See also Help for further information

There are currently a couple of outstanding Enhancements in this regard.

Enhancement 913885 : Create persistent link between dgn and Excel file with Item Types instance data

Enhancement 798811 : Link Excel cells directly to Item Type Properties

  • Hello Carl,

Thanks for your post. I managed to export the type instance and type definition to excel but I have not managed to import the amended values into Descartes.

Is there a way to see graphical example or video?

    Thanks

    Regards

    Roberto
