I started my career 6 years ago using Microstation V8i, and 3 years ago I switched to Microstation Connect. Since I switched to Connect I have noticed that the File menu is painfully slow. It's been frustrating me for years, but it's always been bearable. Recently, circumstances have forced me to work from home over a VPN connection. And since then the File menu has been MUCH slower. It got me thinking about what might be the problem. I hypothesized that the problem is the time it takes to load the thumbnails of my recently opened files. If I'm right, it is basically opening my last 10 dgns every time I open the File menu.
So I am trying to find a way to disable the recent files in the File menu, or at least disable the drawing previews that appear there. I'm not sure if this is possible. Can someone tell me if there are any Configuration Variables, or any other settings, that do this?
Outside of that, can anyone can give evidence for or against the hypothesis? Although I suppose that would be outside the scope of this post.
Edit: Microstation CONNECT Update 13 - Version 10.13.01.01
This has been pointed out in the past also. Looks like finally in UP14 you can disable the thumbnails for recently opened files. My workplace is still running on UP12, we just can't keep up with Bentley with new updates.

This was my comment back in 2019.
I also stumbled upon this which kind of made file tab response faster.
I went to File tab >Open>
and then the File Tab on clicking became more responsive.
These list of 'Recent files' information is saved in .upf file and this is the reason why I think when deleting my .upf file was making file tab response faster along with ctrl+O.
Can anyone from Bentley please test this and see if you can find a solution? or does anyone know of any configuration or settings to NOT SAVE recent files data in .upf ? Thanks.
Deleting the UPF file will reset FileHistory and removed the listing of the previous open files.
You can also set the variable MS_FILEHISTORY to a value of "0" to do the same thing.

Setting MS_FILEHISTORY = 0 has made a huge difference, plus it also shortens up the time for MicroStation to settle down after initially starting up. I'm launching MicroStation from within ProjectWise so i think it might have also been looking into ProjectWise for details on the files, so that was perhaps having an impact as well.
I'm using CE Update 17.
Thanks heaps Regie.
