MicroStation Connect issues

Working in 3d V8i if I want to use Measure Distance Between two elements, the minimum between works fantastic using the setting Gobal Z . In MicroStation Connect I cannot find the same drop down menu and cannot get Minimum Between to work.. Can anyone help  as I am new to Microstation Connect and use this a lot in 3d modeling..

  • The Problem is in missing Global Z option for Minimum Between.  In Connect I cannot get it to leave a Minimum Between line as per picture With V8i  I could mark It on the element or structure so I know exactly where my Minimum Distance is especially if it not going in a straight line... Hope  this makes sense ..  As of yet I have not tried your solution and will give it a go tomorrow and let you know how I go

  • I want the Minimum between line to show where is the Minimum see image below

i cannot get this in connect

I still cannot get it to work in Connect see image .. these two images are the same and the minimum distance  dimensions differ . Cannot Bentley restore this function in Connect , use in all the time in V8i for checking electrical clearances so was an important function in my field .

  • Hi Mike

honestly, I do not see any reason to wast my time and to continue in this discussion.

It's like to listen a spinning top: The same question is repeated, and no required information shared (did you read my posts and questions carefully?).

I want the Minimum between line to show where is the Minimum

As I showed in my previous post, minimum distance is displayed.

I still cannot get it to work in Connect see image

I asked clearly whether the problem is that the tool does not work in your model. You confirmed that it is not the problem, that the problem is in Global Z option missing. But your last comment is about specific model, not about missing mode.

Did you bother to read the discussion I linked? Does MicroStation report any problem during the measurement? Why you do not share your model, as I recommend?

Sorry, this discussion is just wasting time.

    Bye,

  • Hi Jan,

Cannot believe a simple Minimum Between Question would offend you .. I am new to Connect and Bentley Communites .. Being using connect only for a week ..  Thought is was about heiping other users that that don't have the Cad Techical know how?

If you review the history I did reply that i was only having a problem with the 'Global Z' .

As for sharing the model it is illegal for me to do so as i work for a Utility Company .. Hence the simple images ..

Showed the images to my Engineer and he agrees that  the images are self explainary ..

I shared this problem because  i would like the Programmers and Delevopers of Bentley Connect to see if the can  restore the 'Global Z' function ..

It would be good if you yourself  draw up two simple solids the same as I have and show me where the mininum is on that face .

If you can do this then  I apologise

    Regards

    Mike

Nobody mentioned anything about offending. It's about wasting time in discussion without enough details to identify where the problem is, moreover with an approach "test it yourself".

Any help can be provided only when context and exact situation is known and well defined. Which is not in this case.

MicroStation is extremely complex product, supporting wide variety of data and can be installed in different environments (Windows versions, workspaces, customization). When you will read different discussions, you will find plenty of issues presented only under very specific circumstances (e.g. how element was created).

If you review the history I did reply that i was only having a problem with the 'Global Z' .

And the answer was: This option is not available (read documentation, it's stated there clearly), but the same functionality can be retrieved using other options with using ACS or AccuDraw.

Showed the images to my Engineer and he agrees that  the images are self explainary ..

It's not. I think after about 30 years of IT support, I have enough experience to evaluate what is necessary to identify the problem exactly and in acceptable time.

I shared this problem because  i would like the Programmers and Delevopers of Bentley Connect

One from common best practices (not specific to this web, but to all discussion places I know) is to do not ask more times about the same thing. It does not increase efficiency and leads to confusion what thread is active.

Moreover, as noted in Developers and Programmers community description, it's the place where API and SDK are discussed (how they can be used by 3rd party developers). When you want to contact Bentley directly, create Service Ticket for Bentley support. Or, when you want to enhance MicroStation in any way, use Ideas forum.

It would be good if you yourself  draw

Seriously? Why should I do it in my (free) time? Especially when test data exists on your computer already?

two simple solids the same as I have

It works (as mentioned above, MicroStation CE U14 used for testing), no problem:

I can think about let's say 5 different way how these solids can be created. Without test data, everything works fine in my opinion, even when Global Z option is not available.

There can be several different reasons why it does not work (product version used, file/model setting, solids are accidentally not supported by the tool, different workflow, corrupted installation...).

I exceeded time I am willing to invest from my free time to try to help, especially when there is no progression in narrowing and identification the problem.

    With regards,

      Jan
