Now that U14 has the v8i Task Theme do I still need to set this config?
I realize I will be the odd man out here, but what if our company sees moving backwards to task navigation as a step back? Is there a way in CONNECT 14 to remove this option so users have to use the ribbons?
The blog referenced above is relating to changes made in Update 14 and the configuration variable MS_TASKNAVIGATION_CONFIGURATION was deprecated in Update 13, which is referenced by Tim Hickman in the discussion post I referenced. I can understand your concerns as this variable was introduced to remedy issues in Update 12 with getting the V8i tasks to display.

Andrew. Thanks but the blog you refer to doesn't note that the variable has been depreciated. See https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/f/microstation-forum/196761/new-in-microstation-connect-edition-update-14---access-v8i-task-theme-from-quick-access-toolbar-blog
Just to note, the configuration variable MS_TASKNAVIGATION_CONFIGURATION was deprecated in Update 13 when the V8i Tasks Theme was introduced.

In CE14, this var (which you can keep active if you want) offers you the same functionality as the new pop down in the top left, where you can select Drawing, Modelling, Task Navigation and then the icon to its right, which in CE14 now offer you the V8i icons.
It will however, offer you some options within the preferences if you wish to use it
So make no difference really if you keep it or not
