i am using microstation V8I with the SS4 state kit
i am receiving this error message whenever i try to use link data manager to link an excel sheet. i tried using new from template, existing sheet and new from quantities but the same massage comes up. any ideas how to resolve this.
Just to check...Is your version of Excel 32 bit or 64 bit?
It's also possible that you may have to have IT reinstall the .Net (?not sure exactly what it's called?) framework. I've had that happen before when a Windows update changed something behind the scenes.

i think i have excel 64 bit. at least the window on my computer is 64 bit.
i tried to reinstall but nothing

Correct! Here's some info about bit-ness.

Please check. Choose File|Help to get the About Excel dialog...
You can see the version and the bit-ness where highlighted.
my excel is a little different. i found it under account and it states Microsoft excel for Microsoft 365 MSO 64 bit. would the entire Microsoft 365 need to be 32 bit
I believe so.
We ran into an issue a while back with my applications being 64-bit. IT was able to locate, download and install the 32-bit for me. I can't say what they did or how they did it (I'm not involved with IT at this job) but when I came back, I had 32-bit 365, and all my software was able to work together.

As far as I know, you either have 32-bit Office or 64-bit Office. You can't pick-and-choose the bit-ness because there are many components shared by the Office apps.

MicroStation V8i is 32-bit. It won't work with Office 64-bit, which explains the error messge you posted.
If your organisation has standardised on 64-bit apps they will also need to move on to MicroStation CONNECT, which is a Windows 64-bit app.

Alternatively, do what MaryB did, and persuade IT to roll back your Office installation to 32-bit.
