U14 - Is Dimension Element Constraint the same as Dimension Element

Just tried to use the Dimension Element tool (via PM from Tasks) and get Dimension Element Constraint. Is this the same as Dimension Element?

Also note that this tool has different symbology/style than Dimension Linear and doesn't allow me to pick the Dimension style. Note the wrench icon is back.

  • Hello Stuart,
Did you perhaps use a .DGNLIB from MicroStation V8i?
I just had a chat with a colleague facing a similar sort of issue. In this case with the Manipulate part under Task Navigation.
We found that the customized menu DGNLIB originated from V8i.
It is recommended not to do so as the GUI and Menu's in CONNECT Edition are different. Best is to recreate the customized DGNLIB from within CONNECT Edition

How do I do that quickly? Is there a conversion tool for converting my v8i DGNLIB to CE?

  • Hey was just wondering if there has been any resolution on this. I'm having the same issue. I tried to create a new dgnlib from CE, but that still didn't work. Feels like there is a bug in CE. In the Customize window, the icon looks correct, but changes to the constraint icon when in my task list.

  • I know this thread is not very current, but I stumbled across it while searching for something else. stuartw, I am seeing the same thing with CONNECT U15. I do have a custom .dgnlib, but it is one I constructed from using the default CONNECT GUI .dgnlib. The CONNECT & v8i gui are loaded exactly the same as a default installation & are unmodified. Then my custom gui loads.

When I select Dimension Element from the v8i tasks dialog the Dimension Element Constraint tool opens. Any other method opens Dimension Element.

One thing I am noticing is setting the workflow to my Customized workflow and setting the v8i workmode to Toolbox the Dimension Element tool opens as expected. It is only when I set the v8i workmode to Dialog the tool switches.

This is not the first time I've run into something like this. When we first starting looking at CONNECT I used my customized gui from v8i and the Manipulate tools would open the Raster management tools. We were not moving to CONNECT at that point so I dropped investigating the cause.
