Good morning,
we are working with embedded Excel Sheets inside dgn-files. Before we updated our MicroStation from Update 13 to 14, everything worked well and there was no problem to open embedded Excel Sheets.
After the Installation of Update 14 it is not possible anymore. Why?
We need this feature because nearly all drawings we created in the past (and also drawings we have to create in the future) have an embedded Excel sheet.
Please help me in this case. Thanks in Advance.
With Kind regards,
Andreas Schlütter
Good Afternoon,
I am having the same problem with this.
Any idea when this might be fixed?
Regards
David Campbell
From the conversation above, there may be nothing to "fix" because the example file worked correctly for those of us who tried it. That indicates that the issue is localized to that user's installation, possibly the whole shop, depending on how their IT got things done. Since they did not come back to the conversation, we have no way of knowing how it all turned out in the end.
The main recommendation was to uninstall MicroStation, delete all user files, and perform a new clean installation. It's entirely possible for software to get corrupted along the way, or for an old installation to hang onto a bit of data that gets in the way. Updates of other products can also affect existing installations, especially when there are certain dependencies.
If a reinstallation doesn't fix this, I suggest you file a service ticket with Bentley Support (including some of your files that aren't working). That will get the issue in front of the people who have the power to investigate problems and prioritize fixes.

There was another case like this in the German forum so I don't guess it's an installation issue. Due to ongoing projects I haven't switched to CE14 yet so I can't test this.

Hi David,
As was mentioned previously can you provide a test case that demonstrates this behavior? Please make sure there is editable information in the embedded spreadsheet.
I am also working on a service request that was just recently submitted with user having a similar issue so potentially this might be an issue.

Regie
I have filed defect 1099114 against this issue.
In the meantime there are a couple of ways to workaround the issue.
Option #1: Use the suggestion previously made to use the keyin "mdl load olecntr" when you want to edit the embedded spreadsheet, this would be advisable if you only have to edit spreadsheet(s) in one file.
Option #2: Copy the olecntr.ma and olecntr.dll from the ..\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\MdlSys\Asneeded\ to the ..\Bentley\MicroStation CONNECT Edition\MicroStation\MdlSys\Required\ folder this will force the olecntr to be loaded at MicroStation startup.
Option #3: Load the olecntr mdl application using the MS_DGNAPP variable. This will ensure that the olecntr gets initialized each time a DGN file is opened
I just wanted to make those aware on this thread that issue has been addressed in the release of Update 15.
