[CONNECT] [ 10.07.00.39 ] Windows 10 Pro 1909 - Display issues with Nvidia GPU GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER

 Dell Precision Tower 5810 
 Windows 10 Pro, 64bit - Version 1909 OS build 18363.836 
 Direct X 12.0 
 Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-1650 v4 @3.60GHz 
 RAM 32 Gb 
 Nvidia GPU GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER 8 Gb 
 Driver 446.14 Standard 
 
 I just replaced my factory GPU (Nvidia Quadro M4000) 
 with a new GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER as specified above, in order to do Virtual Reality with HP VR Headset 
 (Headset not connected yet) 
 
 Display of rendered views is not smooth as expected and experienced on other 3D applications, 
 especially when I zoom out: some objects display wireframe rather than rendered then disappear and rotation become sluggish. 
 
 Can't understand if this is related to: 
 - Microstation 
 - Nvidia GPU / Driver / Control Panel settings 
 
 Anybody experienced similar issues or can give an advice?

 This is quite old version. MicroStation CE Update 7 was released in November 2017, so about 2.5 years ago! The current version is Update 14 and it can be one from reasons why it's slow, because CE is debugged and optimized with every release (and especially Update 14 seems to be substantially faster).

 It's hard to say without detail analysis. Unfortunately there is no official video benchmark available for MicroStation, so it's not simple task.

 As MaryB mentioned, different issues with DirectX support in Nvidia drivers were discussed in the past. My personal feeling is that even when Nvidia produce pretty good hardware, they focus too much to OpenGL support in their professional cards and DirectX has lower priority (because they treat DirectX as Windows gaming API only). 
 My recommendation is: 
 
 To upgrade to the latest MicroStation CE version. 
 To check Nvidia forums how to configure Nvidia card and driver for DirectX performance.

What started as a GPU issue resolved to be due to some inconsistencies in DGN file used for testing. 
 After reinstalling old GPU (Quadro M4000) the model view' s rotation was still freezing and disappearing at some zoom depth. 
 Investigated the model then (&tilde;2000 surfaces imported from Rhinoceros) and tried other file conversion settings. 
 3DM v5: errors in translation + Rough view rotation - crashes during import (works only with small, simple files) 
 IGES: errors in translation + Rough view rotation 
 STEP: file OK + Smooth movement - BEST WAY 
 Parasolid: file OK + Rough view rotation, freezing zooming out view. 
 Will investigate further Import/Export Settings and tolerances. 
 Tested Bentley View CE14 to open Rhino v6 3dm files directly and look working nice (even if model management isn't as smooth as in Rhino).
