Change Existing Layer Color, Linetype, and Weight

I am a new MicroStation CONNECT user.

i have hundreds of drawings to clean up.  I need a way to quickly change existing layers to the correct color, weight, and line type without doing it manually for every drawing.  I would very much appreciate specific steps and not being directed to various help menus.

Thanks,

Koog

  • Do you use level libraries? If not you could create one that has all of your existing levels in and have the correct color, weight & line style defined. You could have this library attached to all file via a config variable. You could use a batch process to set all of the attributes of the file elements to be bylevel. This is a multi step process. You need to supply the version of Microstation CONNECT. There are many versions of this software & the process may be a little different between them.

Also, good luck finding someone with the time to write out a step-by-step process for you. We voluntarily respond to the forum posts & do not get paid. You can submit a Service Ticket where a paid Bentley employee can assist you.

    Microstation CONNECT - 10.17.2.61

    ORD - 2021 R1 10.10.1.3

    ORD 2022 R1.1 - 10.11.3.2

    ORD 2022 R3 -  10.12.2.4

    Microstation v8i SS 10 - 08.11.09.919

    Power InRoads v8i - 08.11.09.615

    ProjectWise - 10.0.3.453

  • are any of these files nested reference files?  this will complicate things a bit.

You can make a script file in the batch processor to select the levels you need to change and make the changes you need and work its way through batches of files

also you can make /  record a vba macro of doing it typically for one drawing step by step for  level A then level B etc then open another file and run the recorded macro if it works as intended then you can run the batch processor to use your vba macro..over the 100's of files... don't be too ambitious and do too many at once as it take up a lot of resources and nobody can have any of the files open at the same time....

MicroStation has a batch processor, which is designed to help with your kind of problem.

However, as someone who is new to MicroStation that's going to be a tough call.

First, we need to understand what you have, and what you want to change.  A DGN example would illustrate your problem nicely: you can attach a DGN file here using the Insert|insert image/video/file menu.  Annotate the file so we can identify what you have now and what you want it to be.

Since your requirements focus on levels (layers is an AutoCAD term), then adopt  's suggestion to use Level Libraries (DGNLibs).  DGNLibs are central to defining common symbology to be used in many DGN files or projects.

you can make /  record a vba macro

While 's suggestion to use VBA is instructive, it may be a step too far for someone unfamiliar with MicroStation.

I agree with : this Forum provides peer-to-peer help, not a CAD consulting service.  We'll help you, but you're the responsible guy who has to do the work.
