File crashing and turning all levels invisible...

Whenever Microstation V8i crashes it sometimes changes all levels in the file to an abstract level that is automatically renamed. It also changes all the elements to white (color 0). All of the levels the elements were previously on are now gone, and the levels don't show up in the level display. As a reference, the level display shows NO levels instead of unused levels and says "No Levels Passed the Filter". Level Overrides are OFF so this is not the solution.

It looks like it corrupted the level display when it crashed. Is there something I'm missing? Can anyone help/ also experienced this issue?

  • Hi Nathan,

at first, please follow the best practices and provide information required for efficient discussion. Even when you polluted the post with many inconsistent tags, you did not share the most important information: What MicroStation version do you use (there are I guess more than 16 different V8i versions available).

Because the discussion is about MicroStation crashes, further information are important also: Is it specific for one design file or any? Does it happen only on one computer or more? Also, is any application used or it's just plain MicroStation (no ProjectWise, no custom VBA, no 3rd part applications...).

Also, where the files are stored (local drive, network) and how MicroStation preferences are set (to save changed immediately or at the end)?

Can anyone help/ also experienced this issue?

I have never seen such behavior and I think the right question is "why MicroStation is crashing"?

When any software crashes, its state is undefined and anything can happen. So I see no reason to discuss what is happening during the crash, but to focus on the reason of such failure.

MicroStation V8i was really stable piece of software, I remember problems only when huge point clouds were used, but even in that case the file was not corrupted.

    With regards,
