Batch Convert Doesn't Merge Reference Files?

I think I am missing something, but will ask anyway...

We're running MicroStation SS10. We have a project with V8 DGN files stored in ProjectWise (PW). The client requires merged DGNs (i.e. no reference attachments). Appreciating the information that others have put up here regarding how to use the Batch Converter for this process, we created a new folder in PW for the merged files to be placed into, fired up Batch Converter, opened up the V8 Save options, made sure all references' were set to Merge, and chose two files to convert as a test. We then processed the files. New files did indeed get created in the PW folder.
However, two odd things occurred:
1. The time each takes to convert is listed as 0.0 seconds. The status column indicates "Already Converted".
2. When I open one of the newly converted files, nothing is merged. The resulting file still has all the references attached, as though we had merely copied the file over to a new folder.
I tried this twice: once with a fie I was already in, and once more with a file I was not in.

What am I missing???

  • In Batch Convert (Like in "Save file As...")  you can set the "Options" for V8-DGN saving.

Edit>V8-Options|References- There you are able to set how attached References are handled. All in one go.

(try the option "Merge as cell": then your references will at least be maintained together as a cell afterthe merge)

BTW. If you want to send out files and make sure all references are collected: Use the option "Convert References" (even for DGN) and save into a separate folder. All files will then be flat together with the references in that separate folder.
