Good Afternoon,
I have just updated to U14 from U9 I think. I see there is a new table option which I have read up on in one of the Blogs (https://communities.bentley.com/products/microstation/b/microstation_blog/posts/like-v8i-you-ll-love-connect-tables-in-the-microstation-connect-edition)
I would like to understand the following:
1 - I have embedded tables in documents before the update, and now I am unable to edit them. Does this mean I need to redo the table using the new "Place Table" function?
2 - What does this mean for other users who may be using an older Connect version, if I was to use the "Place Table" function, would they be able to edit those tables?
Thanks in advance
Nick
i'm not that familiar with Connect Tables, or when they showed up as an option.
Were the "tables" you embedded before - were those MicroStation tables, or were they Excel spreadsheets? Because the two are very different things.
I believe that older versions of MicroStation will not be able to edit the tables because they came before the table tools. They should be able to see them (since they are created with MicroStation elements, but the older versions will not be able to change anything.

Thanks for the reply MaryB, I suspected that would be the case.
The tables are excel spreadsheets embedded into the files.

OK. Embedded spreadsheets are not related to MicroStation tables - they are an entirely different technology.
You may want to search here for threads about updating spreadsheets. I think I have seen some discussion about issues updating them.

Here is one of the more recent discussions. At the end of the thread there are a couple of suggestions to work around this issue. If you can, it may be worth filing a Service Ticket with Bentley Support to get their insight into any problems.
Tables are something else entirely. While you can certainly look into using them, they are not related to the problems with your spreadsheets.

Tables have been a native feature of MicroStation CONNECT since its commercial release.
A MicroStation Table is drawn using DGN elements. It has creation, editing and data source tools unlike those elsewhere in MicroStation.

You can continue to embed documents (Microsoft Object Linking and Embedding or OLE) as before.
A MicroStation CONNECT Table is not an embedded document. Rather, it is a new intrinsic ability of MicroStation CONNECT. Tables are particularly useful when used with Reports.

No: continue with Excel, carry on as you were.
Nowhere have we been instructed: "Stop using OLE!" However, you can create a Table from Excel, but that's not the same as OLE.
