Reference file incorrectly offset in y direction

We sometimes experience problems with attached reference files that are not properly located. The problem arises both with attached models from the same design file, but also when attaching models from other design files. In the clip below you can see an example where the same model is attached twice but is shifted approx. 2.6m in reference slot 1 (the designfile is attached). The only difference i can see is that the orientation is inaccessible for the reference in slot 1 while the rotation is 0° for the reference in slot 3.

We use Bentley Map SS4 but the problem is the same in Opencities Map Update 5, which is where the screenshot comes from.

I hope someone can help us.

  • Not sure what the problem is here, but when I reference the WFS model into Model-1 it lines up with your Slot 3 reference. I tried both Coincident & Coincident World and both fall in the same location. Slot 1 is obviously a problem. I do not know what the problem is, but I would delete that reference and reattach it to fix the issue. There may be some sort of software issue with the product you are using and you should submit a service request with Bentley, especially since it seems to be on-going from one release to another & you stated it happens pretty often. I am using out-of-the-box CONNECT U13 to test.

I did notice you have several ACS definitions in Model-1, but not in the WFS model. Maybe something is getting confused between the models. It looks like the unnamed ACS is set active in both models. The only other difference is that WFS does not have a coordinate system defined, ut Model-1 does. I don't think this would matter since you are not attaching the references by Geographic methods.

  • I am aware of that the problem easily can be fixed by detaching / attaching the reference, but the problem is that we cannot count on that the references are properly placed. We are a surveying company, and it is absolutely crucial that we can rely on data, even a slight deviation can cause problems.

I have submitted a service request to Bentley, but i was hoping that someone faced similar problems.

  • Understood. I am just verifying that there is definitely some underlying issue. This should not be happening. You had not stated that you submitted a Service Request with Bentley. Many users do not submit the requests. I understand the importance of your information being accurate. I design highways so our work relies heavily on the data we receive from surveyors. I don't use your software so there could be other factors contributing to the problem.
