Hi, Bentley Communities
I am using MicroStation V8i Version 08.11.09.832.
We have plan sheet files that reference a file that contains several nested references such as existing utilities.
We want to gray most elements except for certain levels in one nested reference.
We used overrides in Level Manager and changed the colors to gray, but it does not work. I cannot even take off overrides. It's odd.
We made sure that Level Overrides are on in Reference Presentation for that particular reference, which has live nesting.
I can gray them out if I use Reference Setting, Adjust Colors, Fix Color, make Saturation to zero, and change Value. But, we cannot use this method since we want to keep colors on screen and also there are several levels in one nested file, which we need to keep black color in printing.
What we have been doing has worked for other projects so we are wondering why it's not working this time...
Thank you for your advice in advance.
Yoko
Hi Yoko,
how a configuration variable MS_LEVEL_EDIT_NESTED_ATTACHMENT_LEVELS is defined?
By default, it's undefined, but it has to have a value (e.g. MS_LEVEL_EDIT_NESTED_ATTACHMENT_LEVELS = 1) to allow nested references level control.
With regards,

@Jan - if that variable was set, they would not be able to change the overrides at all (as these would be "disabled").
What it looks like is happening is that they are making the changes in the level manager, and these changes are not reflected in the view - correct ?
As Mary mentioned, I would make sure the overrides option is selected in the active view.
Also it is not clear where you are making the overrides changes - is this being done in the sheet file ? or the reference file that contains the existing utilities, etc... ?

I just checked and all of them have color by level... Blocks are in the right level as well.
Please see my reply to Jose. Thanks.
On the screen, the override seems to be working since it is slightly lighter color compared to the one that is supposed be black when printed. Does this indicate that printing setting is not collaborating?

Every post you give us a new clue, so it's difficult for anybody outside to find the issue even worst the solution.
Probably you're working with pen tables?
Probably you're trying to plot with overrides turn off on plot properties?
This forum has come some long way and I believe we aren't in the good direction. It would be best for you to post a small example so we can try to find out the issue.

Jose,
You've provided me an answer!
I was trying to print with plot overrides turn off on plot properties.
Now I don't know why it worked for other reference files...
For a few reference files, specifying the color in the Printer Setup worked and for one particular reference, it was because Plot Overrides was turned off.
If anyone could explain why this happened, I'd appreciate it.
In any case, thank you so much for helping me!!
