Can I create MText that is Formatted with bullets and/or numbering?

I was wondering if there was a way to create multi-line text like AutoCAD let's you do? So in AutoCAD, you can create text via the MTEXT and you can format the text with rows, columns, auto-adjust, manual, bullets, numbering and unlimited possibilities. But the guy I asked around in the office I just started in says he doesn't know how to do that and he just does his text via the regular text dialog where every time you hit return its its own single line, which is annoying if I am creating notes in a drawing and I have 85 notes and then the engineer removes a few, then I have to renumber and move everything every time. In AutoCAD I can just delete the notes and the numbering will adjust accordingly and I can move the columns and rows to fit my real estate. Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Chris,

You may want to consider doing your "more advanced" word processing in a dedicated word processor like Word or even Word Pad. You can then link or embed objects from the other application into DGN files.

Linked or embedded objects remain fully editable as long as the source application is installed on the computer.

This is explained in MicroStation's Help under Using OLE Container.

This has been a feature in MicroStation for many years.

  • Wow, so Microstation seriously does not have a bullet/numbering feature? Seems like it would be really simple to add to the software?

  • sadly not automated..hay we didn't always have spell check .. we had to copy past in to a word processor package  and do it there then bring it back.. so big improvements post Mstn 95 .. MSJ came with spell check?  getting too old to remember but I do remember in MS 95 buying a third party addon MSspell checker mdl

To do it in mstn you start off and type 1. and set the tab indent then continue typing until you want a new para. hit enter

then type in 2. use the set para indent  and tab and continue nothing automated and too many  steps that is why most of us revert to MS word  and its semi automated  and  copy paste back into the word processor if its true type font  it works a treat...
