How do you drape a raster on a mesh in Connect. Dcdrape disappeared..

I can't find the old dcdrape.pal in Connect. But drape option is still present in the raster manager. So now how do we drape a raster image on a 3D mesh ?

  • Hi Chris,

There is no longer any need to find the dcdrape.pal file.

    Just do the following:

    1. Open the Material Editor
    2. Make a new material.(Material>New pull-down menu)
    3. On the new material click the Pattern Map icon    to open the Map Editor dialog.
    4. Change the map type from Image to Special. This gives you the option to choose dcdrape as the pattern map type.
    5. Assign/Attach this material to elements you wish to drape with any attached raster file(s) that have Draping enabled.

  • Hi Ron,
I'm trying your solution but somehow it doesn't seem to work. I've uploaded a screenshot from my settings.
I've made a new material, called "draperen" added the patern special/dcdrape and assigned that material to various objects to test it. I also attached it to the terrain of the existing ground.

The WMS aerial image is set to drape and is visible as a background image, however it's not draped, and not visible when the display-style is set for Smooth.

Any idea what i'm doing wrong here?

  • Hi Robin,

When draping very large images, the smooth shaded view will often just result in the average color of the draped image being displayed. Try rendering the view through the Render dialog and see if it works better.

Since you are using a WMS image source the results might not work as well as a local image. It can help to clip the WMS raster to include just the general area of the surfaces to be draped, so that only the desired area of the image is evaluated for rendering rather than the entire WMS image.
