Help with Constant Hanging

Hi,

I'm accessing files across a VPN so have read THIS thread re VPN.

However it is really not practicable to copy files to local machine as I have a mile of references that need to be substitute attached.

Upon opening a file - 1st one on the list, I can get to the reference dialogue box but as soon as I select the file to replace existing reference file my MicroStation hangs.

I've not had success with any files as yet.

Can anyone please advise as this is going to seriously impinge on our delivery schedules.

  • Mostly it depends on your internet connection. Request your IT/Network Administrator to generate Procmon Logs and troubleshoot.

    Try the following mainly to improve startup loading

    •  Upgrade to the latest version.
       Download the latest version - MicroStation CONNECT Edition (Full) x64 (SES) Update 14 - Version: 10.14.02.01
       https://softwaredownloads.bentley.com/en/ProductDetails/1000

    •  Once you upgrade, disable thumbnail preview. Check this Wiki for the procedure.

    •  Keep the file history in backstage to a minimum. Especially files being accessed from network.
       Always Start MicroStation and open a file from local drive e.g. test.dgn. Don’t double click a file in the network drive.
       Keep the files to a minimum. Right click on a DGN file and “Remove from list”. The lesser files in the backstage the lesser time to load.

    Suggestion 1 - We are out of service contract so have no capability to upgrade.

    Suggestion 2 - Thumbnail disable isn't an option to switch on and off in Update 13 User Preferences it seems.

    I didn't want to start changing things that may not have had any effect. When in the office, and using remote desktop I had no issues at all with the machine working across the office WiFi - CONNECT worked satisfactorily. 

    However I may have stumbled on a fix. I have a WiFi extender plug situated 1m away that I have switched off and since have had no issues. I am connected to a WiFi router 10m away instead, through a couple of brick walls as well and all seems ok.

    Will continue to monitor.
