Saved View Snap Locks

MicroStation V8i SS4 - 08.11.09.829

Hi All,

in the attached 3D dgn file.  I have created a saved view named "BR1 - Front View" applied to View 3. Most times, i need to measure or move my 3D objects orthogonally for better accuarcy in modelling so,i toggle on the "ACS plane Snap" and ACS plane" locks. Each time  these 2  locks are on and i try to snap a point, the snap end up in a wrong location i don't inetend. In the screen shot below, i am trying to snap to the north of the accudraw compass but the snap end up on the west of the compass.

Meanwhile, this only occurs in all the saved view i have created in the design file and i also don't get this issue when the locks are turned off permanently.

Please find attached a copy of the dgn file below just incese you might want to test this yourself.

Saved View_BR1 - Front View_View 3.dgn

Thank you

Henry

  • Hello Henry,

I was able to reproduce the scenario in which you described. I was able to change the result of the location of the auto-snapping by redefining the location of the ACS by using the various tools located in the ACS tool button group underneath the Drawing Aids tab. Does this answer your question?

  • Hi Jayson,

many thanks for your attempt in helping me to resolve this long standing issue i have always had with MicroStation. Regards your comment, I would like to make you aware for this particular exercise,i am specifically using V8i and not CONNECT as i am taking advantage of some required features modelling tools (Tube Feature) that have been discontinued in latest versions.

Secondly, could you please be slightly more explicit in detailing the steps you have applied in resolving the issue as i could still apply it to v8i if well understood. I wouldn't mind a short video if possible.

Lastly, i strongly believe it would be more productive for you and i to make use of the dgn file i have attached to this post, just in case there might be any design file settings working against me.

Once again, thank you very much for your assistance

I look forward to hearing from you soon

    Kind regards

  • You have an ACS for this view that is edge on and far away from the geometry...

Most times, i need to measure or move my 3D objects orthogonally for better accuarcy in modelling so,i toggle on the "ACS plane Snap" and ACS plane" locks.

I don't think the ACS locks are what you want for this.

ACS Plane lock. Standard view rotations (ex. top, front, side) are relative to the ACS and not design coordinates.

ACS Plane snap: Snap points are projected into the ACS plane.

Seems like you just want to use AccuDraw to move things "orthogonally".

Exactly, i just want to move things orthogonally without the snap glitches.

So what do you suggest i do about this? Recreate the saved view?

I don't think the ACS locks are what you want for this.

If so, can you please outline steps for me to resolve this?

    Thanks Brien

  • Hi Guys,

you were both right. The locks wasn't actually the problem but the alignment of my ACS to this particular saved view. So, what i did was to reset the saved view ACS by applying the Define ACS (Aligned with View) tool from the Auxilliary coordinates dialog and bingo! problem solved.

Thank you very much guys, i really appreciate your input

    cheers
